According to the above Regulation:
<<Olive Oil Polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress>>
<<Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress>>
<<The claim may be used for olive oil which contains at least 5mg of Hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives (e.g. oleuropein complex and tyrosol) per 20g of olive oil>> (250mg/kilo of olive oil)
In reality the Regulation already acknowledges the medicinal / pharmaceutic / therapeutic / disease preventive benefits of such olive oils against "bad cholesterol" (LDL) and oxidative stress. Still, legislation is slow and far behind from scientific research since it acknowledges only Hydroxytyrosol and Derivatives and proposes a Daily Intake of 20 grams of high polyphenolic olive oil. In fact more than 50 categories of olive oil substances have been already patented in pharmaceutics.
